‘Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven’

Matthew 5:16

Bierton provides a quality education within a caring Christian environment. We aim to create a happy, safe environment where children and adults can respect and value each other. We encourage our children to take pride in belonging to our school and all that it offers.
Our Christian Vision is that 'At Bierton CE Combined School, we don't hide our light. We aim high, achieve success, find our sparkle and shine.'

"Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:15 -17.

By providing excellent learning opportunities, our aim is for each and every child to reach their full potential both academically and personally. All children at Bierton are encouraged and guided to become rounded individuals with an understanding of good citizenship, based on principles of truth, justice, courage, respect and tolerance. We want to create a sense of self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth in every pupil, as well as help each pupil to realise their own potential. In order to achieve this, we utilise children’s natural curiosity and sense of wonder and seek to help pupils develop lively and enquiring minds with a growth mindset and ability to apply themselves to tasks and the skill to interpret the world around them, whilst helping them acquire the knowledge and skills demanded by society in the adult world.

We recognise the importance of home, school, church and the local community working in partnership for the best outcome for our children. All staff endeavour to foster relationships with pupils which reinforce expected attitudes and behaviour in a friendly and caring way, enhancing the quality of school life for all. Promoting an understanding and tolerance of others and an awareness of the wider world ensures that children leave Bierton with a compassionate and open mindset. These aims are supported by a ‘broad and balanced’ curriculum which is carefully structured to build on prior successes.

St James’ Church and Kingsbrook Church

Reverend Dan from St James’ in Bierton and Reverend James from Kingsbrook are regular visitors to our school. Between them, they deliver fortnightly collective worship to the whole school. They also visit classes to deliver RE lessons or provide a different perspective within an RE lesson. Our children also visit the church for our Harvest service and to take part in Messy Church. Both Reverend Dan and Reverend James delivered our recent Christingle service and attend numerous events that we put on throughout the year, e.g. Christmas shows, assemblies, Leavers’ service to name but a few. We are very lucky to have two Reverends who are very much part of our school community.

 Hulcott Nursing Home

Hulcott Nursing Home is our local care home who provide specialist and residential nursing care. Our children visit the home once a month to take part in an activity with the residents. We believe that community links are essential in the growth, development and wellbeing of all our pupils. It is also evident how much the residents get out of our visit as many of them would not have any other interaction with children.

 Local Community

We have been developing links with our local community as part of the Make a Difference Challenge. The focus of the project was to tackle loneliness in our local community. Our School Council organises different events throughout the year and invites the local community to come in and enjoy either a morning or afternoon in our school. So far this year, the local community has been invited to watch EYFS/ KS1 Harvest performance; play bingo with Year 3/4; watch KS2’s Christmas performance and enjoy a Christmas celebration afternoon with all drinks, food and gifts donated from local businesses. At the event, every class performed either a dance or a song for the community to enjoy.

 Uyoba Community Project

As our vision is to let our light shine and show our good deeds, we believe it is important to support others who are less fortunate than ourselves. Our school council recently voted to support the Raise a Smile Charity who have been raising money to build a community library in Uyoba, Zambia. Last year, the children donated toys which were shipped off to Uyoba. They have written letters and shared videos to highlight climate and cultural differences between the children at Bierton and the children in Uyoba. We also hold regular fundraising events and have further donation events planned for later in the year. The children love supporting this charity and it really helps demonstrate to the children that Christianity is a global faith where ‘showing our good deeds’ can really make a difference.
